Audley in John Waite's New Band Project?
From Melodicrock.com
"We'll start today's update off with some exclusive information that will clarify a rumor going around right now. In recent weeks there has been reports of singer John Waite talking about a new band project he has lined up for 2008 and hopeful fans being what they are - whispers about The Babys possibly reforming started up.
Unfortunately, there are no plans for The Babys to reform.
But John Waite has put a band project together. My source has delivered to me the proposed line-up, which I'll pass on right here:
Vocals - John Waite; Guitars - Audley Freed (ex-Cry Of Love, now touring with Peter Frampton); Drums - Simon Kirke (Bad Company); Bass - Tim Hogan (JW Touring Band); Organ - Ian Maclaglan (Ronnie Wood).
I'm told that the band has plans to write and record original material. There is no name for the project, but don't be surprised to see it reflect two past group names that the guys were involved with (ie. Bad English and Bad Company).
Stay tuned for more...sounds interesting!"

Former Cry Of Love vocalist Kelly Holland met songwriter Rick Watson in the fall of 1997. Kelly liked Rick's songs, & the two decided to work together. These songs are the result of a session that took place at Jag studios in Raleigh, North Carolina. The passion is self evident. Hear it for yourself:

Audley At Family Wash. 10th June '07
Audley will be playing at the
Family Wash, Nashville, on Sun 10th June with
'The East Nashville Aristocrats', featuring guitarist Reeves Gabrels. The band are appearing along with Ted Drozdowski's blues-duo 'The Scissormen' to celebrate, what would've been, the 97th birthday of Howling Wolf.

Audley touring with Peter Frampton
Mar 2007: Looks like Audley has been named as touring guitarist for Peter Frampton's 2007 North American 'Footprints' tour. Also in the band will be Rob Arthur (keyboards, guitar and backing vocals) and John Regan (bass), as well as Noah Levy (drums).
Tour dates begin in April 12th and can be found HERE

Audley at the Family Wash 1st and 2nd March 2007
Hey, hey, my, my—rock ’n’ roll will never die. Well, certainly not this weekend, anyway, as East Nashville’s Family Wash is awash in classic from yesteryear. This Thursday and Friday, a group billing themselves as the Sons of Zevon (a reference to a previous Warren Zevon tribute show) will dig deep into the catalog of Neil Young, fronted by local heroes such as Tommy Womack, Bob Delevante, Chuck Mead, Tim Carroll, Bill Lloyd, Dave Coleman and Brian Waldschlager. The Sons are no slouches themselves: guitarists Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie), Audley Freed (Dixie Chicks, Black Crowes), Pete Finney (Dixie Chicks) and Wash co-owner Jamie Rubin, bassist Jared Reynolds (Ben Folds), keyboardist Jen Gunderman (The Jayhawks) and drummer Marco Giovino. From 7 to 9 both nights, it will be “quiet Neil,” after which time the horse will get crazy, so to speak. —JACK SILVERMAN nashvillescence.com

Kelly Holland emails cryoflove.co.uk!
Kelly responded to an email from the site recently. He wanted to pass on his love to all the fans. Kelly said I could pass on the following message to everyone:

"T
hanks so much for your kind words. It has been such an honor for me to hear from so many people in regards to their appreciation for the music we made while Cry Of Love was together. It suprises me to this day, so many years after the fact, to see that people still remember & talk about a band that was only around for just a few short years. It's very touching. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to you & all the other fans over there in the U.K. for your continued support & "fandom". You guys are truly the best fans a band could ever wish for, bar none."

I also asked Kelly about the new track that he was recording with Custer at the beginning of the year but it seems that progress has stalled on this:

"
I must say that I share in your disappointment over the lack of progress in completing the song, I was excited about it, too. Thanks again for the heart-warming love everyone has shown us, it truly is one of the most wonderful things I have ever seen... I love you guys too"

- Thanks Kelly! We miss you!

Audley to appear on Sass Jordon album
Sass Jordon has just finished mastering her new record, which was produced by Colin Linden. It was recorded over four days in Nashville. Musicians include Bob Babbitt from the Funk Bros, Garry Tallent from the E Street Band, Colin Linden, Ken Koomer, Audley Freed, Bryan Owings, and Richard Bell. It's called "Get What You Give" and it will be out in Canada in September.

Audley guests on Will Hoge album
Audley appears on a track from Will Hoge's 3rd studio album. The track, "Heart's Are Gonna Roll", also features guitarist Bryan Layson. The album is titled "The Man Who Killed Love".

Dixie Chicks/Audley Freed; Tom Petty
Dixie Chicks are booked to play the Greensboro Coliseum on Oct. 22, and over 1,000 tickets were sold via a special pre-sale. But tickets to the general public have not yet gone on sale. That's because the date will "almost definitely" be postponed, according to Greensboro Coliseum public relations manager Andrew Brown. With the Chicks having soft ticket sales in many cities, their tour is being reshuffled. Most likely, the Greensboro date will be rescheduled for 2007. So if you've got one of those pre-sale tickets, all you can do for now is sit tight and wait for the official announcement.

That will put off the homecoming performance of Burgaw native Audley Freed, the former Cry of Love guitarist. Freed is playing guitar in the Chicks' touring band behind John Mellencamp/Joe Ely guitarist David Grissom -- Freed's highest-profile gig since playing in the Black Crowes and backing up Jimmy Page. - David Menconi, On The Beat. July 7th 2006

Kelly Holland's New Project
As well as playing in Raleigh band Crush, Kelly also now plays in another covers band VISTALITE, who appear to be a regular fixture at Napper Tandy's Irish bar in Raleigh.
They play songs by Tom Petty, White Stripes, Black Crowes and more

Audley to appear on British TV program "Later...with Jools Holland" ?
On 16th June, BBC 2 at 11.35pm, the Dixie Chicks will be performing on this excellent weekly live music program. Presumably, Audley will be splapping his banjo with them so this might be a good opportunity to catch up on his latest hairstyle. I wonder if he'll just be strumming a few lovely chords or maybe even playing a few tasty country licks? For you 'across the pond'rs' and Europeans, you can catch the show online for up to seven days from when it was aired at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/later/

Audley Working on a New Album for Sony?
San Francisco rock band Train has some North Carolina content on its new album, "For Me, It's You," out Tuesday on Columbia Records. Burgaw native Audley Freed, former guitarist in Black Crowes and Cry of Love, co-wrote two of its songs -- the title track and "Am I Reaching You Now." The connection came via Train bassist Johnny Colt, who used to play in the Black Crowes before Freed joined.
"I'm not Townes Van Zandt or anything," Freed says with a laugh. "They didn't cut songs by me alone; the songs are co-writes. I'm looking forward to hearing how they turned out. I haven't even heard them yet." It's a potentially lucrative credit for Freed, given that all three of Train's albums have sold at least 1 million copies, with 2001's "Drops of Jupiter" cracking 2 million. This should be Freed's highest-profile exposure since he left Raleigh almost three years ago for Nashville, where he spends most of his time playing studio sessions. "They say it's a five-year town, so it's working out OK," Freed says. "Doing a lot of the studio stuff really suits me. You can stay at home and be creative. I'm also doing some writing, and I started making a record last week for Sony. Although there are so many hurdles as to whether or not that will ever even come out, so who knows? Most of the records I've worked on have been for new artists you've never heard of, who will have records out this year. It's pretty workmanlike, man."

Audley to appear at Warren Haynes Xmas Jam
Even the hardest working man in show business isn’t too busy to give back this holiday season.
On December 17th 2005 Warren Haynes will be putting on his annual Christmas Jam. The gathering of jamming musicians will take place in the Civic Centre Arena in Ashevill, North Carolina, and money raised will go to Habitat for Humanity. “The Christmas Jam started 17 years ago as an opportunity for local musicians to jam at the one time of year they were all in town at the same time,” Haynes said.Aside from Haynes’ band, Gov’t Mule, the Jam will feature Trey Anastasio, who is newly solo after Phish’s split, and indie rock guitarist Edwin McCain, who won some commercial success with his 1998 single “I’ll Be.” Also rocking the stage will be Electric Hot Tuna, Audley Freed, Kevn Kinney, Ray LaMontagne, John Medeski, Ivan Neville, Dave Schools, Jon Scofield, Dr. Ralph Stanley, Marty Stuart, and Paterson Hood and Jason Isbell from the Drive By Truckers. More performers may be added as they are confirmed. The festivities will begin the day before with local radio station WNCW doing a live pre-jam broadcast on December 16th.

Jason Patterson pops into cryoflove.co.uk
Cry of Love's very own tub-thumper extraordinare contacted yours truly yesterday with a quick update on his whereabouts and activities. He says:
"Due to damage in New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina we [COC] had to pull out of the UK and European Motorhead dates. There is serious talk about a co-headlining UK/Europe tour with Clutch as early as mid January.
There is a brilliant guitarist that I have worked with recently here in the US that I think most COL fans would enjoy. His name is Jason Leroy Christensen. His website address is www.scarletrunner.net Go check him out!

OCT 5th 2005. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUDLEY!!!

Audley appearance at the Family Wash 1st October 2005?
Family Wash co-owner Jamie Rubin steps to the other side of the bar Saturday night, as he takes the stage with Circus Dog Serenade, a rollicking aggregation who split the difference between Crazy Horse and the Stones, finished off with a dollop of ambient soundscape à la Radiohead. Expect a parade of celebrities—including Audley Freed (Black Crowes) and Rich Gilbert (Frank Black)—to join Rubin & Co. Boston’s Scissormen, who play raucous juke-joint blues, round out the evening. From the Corrosion of Conformity Website:

People please, if someone spills your drink or steps on your foot or hurts your feelings, it might be better to laugh it off and walk away. If some one is really creating a dangerous situation, alert the security people at the show. They are professionals or at least they get paid to handle such situations without you putting yourself in legal or physical danger.

Many people will act as if you've insulted their alleged honor but will show no honor in settling a situation. They may produce a knife our gun and as in the case of our recent Tampa show, kill or injure unarmed individuals.

This tragedy is possible anywhere people gather and especially where alcohol is involved. It also is a possibility wherever nihilism sets in, as I'm afraid it has in the world of heavy metal, where we find ourselves categorized, for better, or more likely for worse. I'm not trying to espouse any lofty ideals or spirituality but could we at least aim as high as everyone coming together however briefly, to have a good time without hurting anyone?

As fans of rock'n'roll, it's up to us to show that we can have these events without violence or unnecessary tragedy. It is important to note that it takes only one wing nut or sociopath to ruin your whole day or end your whole life. Don't be that asshole and most importantly, point him out to security or club management.

Also an important afterthought: Don't be so quick to criticize media for "negative reporting" or stereotyping while reporting on this tragedy.
There IS a lot of negativity involved in the heavy metal crowd.
Of course the bad seeds are in the minority, but look how much damage one person on one night can do.

Of course there are some slight inaccuracies in reporting and reporters are prejudiced by the nihilistic and sometimes violence-glorifying images of some groups and some fans.
Show that you are above this destructive stereotype. Our band has been committed to a higher standard for some time but it is an uphill struggle to be sure.

Every day in every situation, the power is yours so use it wisely.

mike d,

Well it's all coming together! Thanks to those who have registered and introduced yourselves in the forum! 14 members now and hopefully growing! I have made some interesting contacts whilst researching Cry of Love, In particular a guy who spent some 'road time' with the band in 1994 in Europe. And Steve Quinny who played with Jason Patterson in Rock Band 'Cirkus'. Steve has forwarded to the site address to Jason and the other guy will try to make Audley Freed aware of this site and possibly share his diary which he wrote whilst with Cry of Love! Exciting stuff indeed. Thanks to all of you who have offered to send me Audio and Visual of the band, especially Dalton and Tony "Dio" Metalfest Leonard! Keep rockin' guys and gals and spread the word! I have certainly been making a nuisance of myself in any Audley/Cry of Love related forum I can find. Only a matter of time before they lock me up for spamming! - Ollie

FORUM is up! Post away! Gallery and Links page to follow, and the Auldey Freed section to begin shortly.

26.04.2005
Welcome to the Cry of Love and Audley Freed fansite. Over the coming months I hope to make this a central resource for all Cry of Love/ Audley Freed fans.

As a fan of Led Zeppelin, Free, Hendrix and Classic Rock in general, Cry of Love always sounded the sort of band that I wished I could be in. In particular, the guitar work of the, sorely under-rated, Audley Freed echoes that of my favorite guitar players from the 70's and it is criminal that this band were overlooked in the 90's, partly due to the exploding Seattle music scene at the time. Parts of this site are likely to be blindingly inaccurate and I am relying on you, the fans, to help me pool together all the knowledge on this classic band to make this site the number one resource for the band.

I also hope to have a Forum up in the next few weeks so that Audley/COL fans can talk 'till sundown about the ex-band members new projects, the music of the band and swap gear and playing tips for the muso's out there. I also hope that a bootleg section will develop for show trading and to share rare COL footage over their short life.

A section of the site will be devoted specifically to Audley Freed. I hope to cover the gear that Audley uses, and build a gallery of images showing Audley in the numerous jobs he seems to be holding down at the moment! Perhaps a section devoted to guitar tabs will develop.

Any help, suggestions or links are all greatly received. Please contact me using the button on the mainpage at www.cryoflove.co.uk

Keep Rockin'

Ollie.
